Cape Performance Sailing is the new Cape 31 builder

February 2021

Davey James

Under the watchful eyes of  Project lead Davey James and boat builder Stephen du Toit, the first Cape 31 under the banner of Cape Performance Sailing is nearing completion for her new customer in the United Kingdom. Cape Performance Sailing is a company founded by long time investor and fan of cruising cats and racing sailboats, Elian Perch, a former board member and shareholder of world renowned Leopard Catamaran builder, Robertson and Caine. Ellian and Davey approached experienced dinghy boat builder Stephen du Toit to take up the challenge of building Cape 31s. Stephen with over 30 years experience immediately got to work with securing new factory premises near his existing factory in Capricorn Park, Cape Town. A couple of months later, the team at Cape Performance Sailing secured their first order with a second order following immediately after.

Since the startup of Cape Performance Sailing, David Bartholomew of Hamble based Team Tokoloshe and long time sailing buddy Dave Swete have secured the right to sell and distribute Cape 31s in the United Kingdom. The team has also established the UK Cape 31 Class Association and are confident that we will see a fleet of Cape 31s terrorizing the Solent very shortly with two additional boats about to be shipped from Cape Town. Tokoloshe 3 (Hull 14) is the current Cape 31 based in the Solent and has already proven herself as an IRC winner.
